About Me
I’m Erik Coleman—a public health professional, community leader, and proud East Point resident. I’m running to represent East Point City Council Ward D At-Large because I believe in principled leadership and a bold, clear vision for a city where everyone can thrive—a city that is empowered, safe, and united.
As I’ve listened to neighbors and reflected on what it means to build an East Point we can be proud of, a common theme has emerged: we want a city where families can grow, businesses can prosper, and neighborhoods are safe and feel connected.
Ward D currently lacks accessible parks and green spaces for families. Across East Point, we need more walkable neighborhoods, a greater variety of housing options, and stronger support for local businesses to grow our economy. Just as importantly, we need a city government that leads with transparency, civility, and efficiency. These aren’t isolated issues—they affect us all. I’m ready to address them head-on.
I was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, by my mother—a dedicated educator and administrator in Richmond Public Schools for over 35 years. She instilled in me and my younger brother the values of education, perseverance, and purpose—principles that continue to guide my work and life.
Today, I serve as a Health Scientist (Informatics) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where I focus on preventing environmental health hazards and improving health outcomes in all communities. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Health Science with a minor in Information Technology from George Mason University, a Master of Public Health from Howard University, and I’m currently completing my Doctor of Public Health at the University of Georgia, with graduation expected in 2026.
Since moving to East Point in 2018, I’ve served on the Lakeside Preserve Homeowners Association Board and chaired the Beautification Committee, leading projects that promote community pride, safety, and a higher quality of life. I’m also honored to serve on the East Point Building Authority and completed the East Point Citizens Police Academy—experiences that deepened my commitment to public safety, transparency, and trust between the community and city leadership.
I regularly volunteer at the Food Distribution Program at Jefferson Park Recreation Center, helping support neighbors in need and strengthen the bonds that hold our community together.
I’m also a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.—a brotherhood rooted in achievement and service—and a devoted member of Elizabeth Baptist Church, where my faith fuels my passion for service and empowerment.
I believe local government works best when it reflects the values we share, the challenges we face, and the pride we feel in the place we call home.
I’m East Point Proud—and I’m ready to lead with integrity, vision, and service.
Join me in building a stronger, safer, and more united East Point—together.

Why I'm Running
I’m running for East Point City Council Ward D At-Large because our community deserves more than promises—we deserve progress. For too long, East Point residents have been made promises of change but delivered little in return. I'm stepping up because I believe in accountability, transparency, and leadership that delivers real results—not empty words.
I’m running because I’m frustrated by the lack of momentum in areas that matter most—especially downtown development. East Point has the potential to build a thriving, inclusive, mixed-use downtown that attracts businesses, offers diverse housing options, and creates new opportunities for our residents. But potential means nothing without action. We need leadership with vision, a sense of urgency, and a plan to move us forward.
I’m also running because I refuse to let anyone, especially my generation, be left out of the conversation. Most East Point residents are between the ages of 18 and 64—yet our concerns are often overlooked. It’s time for bold, inclusive leadership that listens to young professionals, families, and first-time homeowners, while ensuring that our children and seniors are protected and prioritized.
Ultimately, I’m running because I believe every person in East Point deserves the opportunity to thrive in a city that is empowered, safe, and united.
Together, we can build a future where our neighborhoods flourish, our voices are heard, and our local government truly serves the people.
